Is there any way to remove all the grease under the nails without just cutting them off all the way?

Fast Orange and a good firm-bristled fingernail brush.

And a box of nitrile gloves for the next project. :)

I always find it works really well to shampoo my hair with the ends of your fingers pointing at your scalp(so that you are basically scratching your head as you wash your hair). That seems to get all the crud out from under your fingernails. Then I usually just shampoo my hair again, but if I was working on my car I probably needed to wash it twice anyway.

Put lotion on your hands before doing work and be sure to get some under the nails. Works.

A large box. I tear them at least every 30 minutes.

I made the mistake of grabbing an old motorcycle sprocket bare-handed. That didn’t come off my hand (despite vigorous orange soaping) for weeks.

If you work an office job, with a bunch of non-badasses, visible evidence of working with your hands should be a badge of honor. Like in Fight Club when Edward Norton’s boss asks him about the blood on his shirt.

My dad would tell me as a kid, about my grandmother inspecting his nails before he and his brother would make a run to the autoparts store to make certain they did not have grease under their nails.

I’ve got seam sealer and POR-15 all over my fingers. Grease and paint would be a significant upgrade.
